About Me

Hello! This is Eren. I am an Assistant Professor in Gies College of Business at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. In today’s world, data is becoming extremely abundant and data driven insights are becoming status quo for decisions including those in business and healthcare. My passion is to design and use data analytics tools to guide the decision making process. My background in mathematics adds some theoretical flavor to my research. I got a B.S. from Electrical and Electronics Engineering department at Middle East Techincal University and a second B.S. from the Department of Mathematics at the same university. P.S. studying Mathematics was one of the most important cornerstones in my scientific journey. I received my M.S. degree from Bilkent University in Control Theory with Prof. Hitay Ozbay before moving to University of Texas at Dallas for my Ph.D. At UTD I was lucky to work/working with Prof. Mathukumalli Vidyasagar on various topics from Machine Learning,Compressed Sensing to Computational Biology. From there I moved to  IBM as a Postdoc and was very lucky to be mentored by Gustavo Stoloviztky with whom we are working on several subjects including crowd-sourcing, machine learning, and cancer biology. Before coming to Gies, I was an assistant professor at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai Hospital.
